The Cat That Inspired "Midnight"

Updated: Jan 9, 2019

This week more than 90 actors will begin learning about the characters they will play in the THS Drama Club's first original show, "Halloween, Again." One special character in this year's show is "Midnight the Cat." He's a special cat who was inspired by a real-life feline living with a THS family.

"I stopped by a fellow director's home one afternoon to discuss costumes," says Deborah Sansone, show director, "There was this beautiful kitten, Albert. He was shy but curious. His eyes said so much and he was so adorable, I had to suggest a black cat to our writers."

The writing team including 7th grade Amity Middle School student, Gary McVety, 5th Grade former THS Student, Claire DeRosa and current 5th graders, Ella Fairty and Josh DeRosa, loved the black cat idea and so Midnight was born. Midnight the Cat is a full character in our show. He has the ability to communicate through only one word, "Meow." But somehow his owner can understand him.

Three very talented third graders will be playing the part of Midnight the Cat including Albert's owner, Jake Donohue. It may seem like an easy job, but it will prove to be a challenging role since Midnight's meow's means different things.

We hope our actors have as much fun playing Midnight as we had creating him! Don't miss Midnight's premier on Friday, April 5th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 6th at 6:00 p.m.

Albert loves to work on the script with friend Buddy the Dog.
